By Jake Lindquist
Code Training and Development

As the 2020 training year kicks off, it’s a great time to focus on classroom trainings. December was a good month for classroom training, and with over 150 people attending our training sessions last month, we are really looking forward to what the new year will bring.

Upcoming training dates and availability

  • Feb. 8 or 9 (weekend class, requires registration)
NFA Fire Service Safety Culture: Who Protects Firefighters From Firefighters?

On-demand training opportunities
Alternative Fuel Vehicles Training Program for Emergency Responders Online Training is a free course that teaches firefighters and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals how to safely deal with emergency situations involving alternative fuel passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, and commercial fleet vehicles. Upon successfully completing the program, students will receive a certificate.

Training spotlight
John Kreuser and Bob Berg were busy in December providing Hazmat: The First Hour, Oil Transportation Awareness, and Ethanol Emergency Response training free of charge to fire departments throughout the state. Their dedication to providing high-quality instruction has not gone unnoticed, and requests for them continue to come into the SFMD. If you’re interested in having Bob or John come to your department, scheduling is easy. Just send an email to jacob.lindquist@state.mn.us and indicate which training you would like and some possible dates. Trainings are currently being scheduled for late April early May of 2020.

In the works
The 2020 Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Conference is being held April 14-15 in Eagan. This conference a great opportunity to receive training and meet other professionals who do what you do. The venue, food, and educational opportunities are always top notch, and this year’s conference looks to be one of the best yet. FMAM and SFMD expect to send a registration announcement very shortly.
