Our commitment against fraud

Fraud, waste and abuse have no place at the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) or in the services we provide to Minnesotans.

Every day, our employees demonstrate what our commitment against fraud looks like in action. Their professionalism, attention to detail and responsible use of state resources help ensure fraud, waste and abuse remain rare within our agency.

No matter our division or role, we have a responsibility to stay vigilant and take steps to further strengthen our safeguards. By doing this, we will continue building an agency rooted in trust, accountability and respect.

Commissioner Bob Jacobson's commitment

As commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, I want to be unequivocally clear: fraud, waste and abuse have no place in this department or in the services we provide to Minnesotans. These acts are not just violations of law or policy - they erode the trust that is fundamental to our mission of serving all communities to build a safer Minnesota. When public resources meant to protect and support our communities are misused, every Minnesotan pays the price. This is why I am personally committed to leading a culture where integrity is expected, accountability is enforced and every report of misconduct is taken seriously. We will confront these threats head-on, strengthen our safeguards and ensure DPS remains an agency worthy of the responsibility the public has entrusted to us.

As commissioner, I affirm my personal and official support of policies and practices that:

  • Maintain a zero-tolerance culture
  • Implement robust preventative controls
  • Promote awareness and training
  • Ensure reporting and investigation
  • Foster collaboration and information sharing
  • Perform regular evaluation and continuous improvement

By adhering to these principles, DPS reaffirms our dedication to protecting public resources and fostering trust in the programs, services and grants we oversee. We are committed to a culture of vigilance and accountability in the pursuit of preventing, identifying and investigating fraud, waste and abuse.
