Let’s see … lose weight, get in shape, spend less time at the office and more time with the kids …almost everyone makes at least one resolution this time of year. Why not put that time-honored tradition to work for your family’s safety? The perks: New Year’s safety resolutions don’t involve going to the gym every day, and it’ll be hard to beat the peace of mind they’ll give you all year long.

Need help getting started? No problem. We have eight suggestions for making 2019 your safest year yet:

  1. Put away the distractions and drive.
  2. Plan a sober ride for every holiday and party throughout the year.
  3. Secure your load every time you’re on the road.
  4. Be ready for disasters with a kit, a plan and ways to stay connected.
  5. Always wear your safety gear when riding your motorcycle.
  6. Make sure underage drinkers aren’t getting alcohol.
  7. Call 811 two business days before you start any project in your yard that involves digging.

Here’s hoping all of your resolutions come to fruition. Happy New Year from the Department of Public Safety!
