Incendiary Devices and Materials

The trace section examines solid materials that may have been used to start a fire. Items such as road flares, fireworks, and some household chemicals may be used to start fires, and the residues can be examined to ascertain if this is the case. In addition, the trace section works with other sections when there is a possibility of recovering fingerprints or DNA evidence from a device suspected of being used in a fire.
