Single Plate Issue
Back display - A single license plate is issued to the following vehicles for display on the back of the vehicle:
- Dealer and Dealer In-transit vehicles
- The vehicle model year is 1972 or earlier, and the vehicle is used for general transportation
- The vehicle is used for general transportation and meets the definition of a pioneer, classic or street rod vehicle (Minnesota Statute 168.10).
- The vehicle is registered in one of the Collector Classes (pioneer, classic car, collector, street rod)
Front display - A single license plate is issued to the following vehicles for display on the front of the vehicle:
- Tractors and truck-tractors, used in tractor-trailer combinations
- Farm class vehicles, 20 model years or older
Expiration: All motorcycle registrations expire in February. The license plate displays the month of expiration sticker and a year validation sticker.

Personalized vertical motorcycle plates are also available for purchase for motorcycles (below) with an additional $100 payment for any plate issued. No more than four (4) identifying characters may be used for the license plates.

Moped or Motorized Bicycle
One that is propelled by a motor having a:
- Piston displacement of 50cc or less
- Maximum speed not exceeding 30 mph on a flat surface.
Expiration: All moped registrations expire in February. The license plate displays the month of expiration sticker and a year validation sticker.
