Parents, whom home-school children, may teach the classroom portion of the driver education curriculum.
Students who attend an online school or a charter school, or students who are homebound, do not meet the definition of home-school students. They are not eligible to complete the classroom portion at home.
Minnesota law allows a person under 18 years of age to complete the classroom portion of driver’s education, when the student is receiving full-time instruction in a home school, within the meaning of Minnesota Statutes 120A.22 and 120A.24, the student is working toward a home-school diploma, the student’s status as a home-school student has been certified by the superintendent of the school district in which the student resides and the student is using driver training classroom materials approved by the commissioner of public safety.
