CDL Class C

A class C commercial driver’s license (CDL) allows you to drive a class C vehicle. It is valid for four years and can be renewed.  

A class C driver’s license must have one of the following endorsements: 

  • Hazardous Materials.
  • Passenger.
  • School Bus (with a Passenger endorsement).

Class C vehicle

A class C vehicle is a single-unit that is 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or less. You can usually find the plate that lists the GVWR on the driver side door frame.

A class C vehicle may pull a trailer that is less than 10,000 pounds GVWR. 

Examples of Class C vehicles are shuttle buses, small school buses, or cars and trucks that transport hazardous material.
