Theft of driver's license or ID card

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services Division (DVS) recognizes that the misuse of your identity by someone else is a serious problem.

What to do

Victims of driver's license or ID theft should:

  • File a police report with the local police or the police in the community where the identity theft took place.
  • Request that DVS flag the driving record to alert law enforcement officers that someone else may be assuming the identity –  complete and submit the Victims of Identity Theft form.
    • Once the flag is on your account, you will have to have a new photo taken each time you apply
