Driver compliance limited license
Under some circumstances, a limited license may be issued to a person whose driving privileges are suspended or revoked.
Certain requirements must be met, including any mandatory suspension or revocation waiting periods set by state law, before a limited license will be issued. The notice of suspension or revocation will inform the customer how long their driving privileges are withdrawn.
Only one limited license is allowed in a 24-month period. If a new withdrawal of driving privileges goes on your record, you will have to wait half of the new withdrawal period before receiving another. Waiting periods are subject to change based on any changes in state law or Minnesota rule.
Violations that result in suspension
- Habitual violations (four or five violations in 12 months, five or more violations in 24 months)
- Non-payment of child support
- Only one 90-day child support limited license is allowed in a lifetime. If a child support issue has not been resolved during the 90-day limited license period, you will not qualify for another limited license.
- Conviction for misuse of a driver’s license (within five years)
- Out of state implied consent
- Theft of gas (no limited license is allowed for this offense)
Violations that result in revocation
- Insurance violations
- Implied consent or driving while intoxicated (DWI) conviction – first offense on record or second on record with the first being more than 10 years old, only if you tested 0.15 blood alcohol concentration or below, or you refused the test
- Speed more than 100 miles per hour
- Fleeing from police officer
