Vehicle title application for kit cars, replica cars and restored pioneer vehicles
A kit/replica car is a vehicle built to resemble a specific year, make, model of a vehicle.
These specially constructed vehicles must be built using:
- the frame from an existing motor vehicle and the body from a “kit” manufacturer
- the frame and the body from a “kit” manufacturer
The vehicle year will be titled using the year the kit was manufactured, not the year the vehicle was designed to resemble. This will affect your eligibility for collector plates.
The make will be titled using the manufacturer listed on the Manufacturer Certificate of Origin (MCO). Kit car vehicles are branded as reconstructed.
Restored pioneer vehicle
Legislation defines a “restored pioneer vehicle” as a vehicle manufactured prior to 1919 and whose restoration includes replacement of one or more essential parts, and only those necessary to retain the character and appearance of the vehicle as originally manufactured. The law specifies that these pre-1919 vehicles are not subject to branding as reconstructed.
