PSIC

The Public Safety Interoperable Communication (PSIC) grant program was a onetime grant funded by the sale of a portion of the 700 MHz spectrum. The PSIC Grant Program was designed to assist public safety agencies in the planning and coordination associated with, acquisition of, deployment of, or training for the use of interoperable communications equipment, software and systems that:

  • utilize reallocated public safety spectrum for radio communication;
  • enable interoperability with communications systems that can utilize reallocated public safety spectrum for communication; or
  • improve or advance the interoperability of public safety communications systems that utilize other public safety spectrum bands. (See: http://www.ntia.doc.gov/psic/)

The state of Minnesota was awarded $16.4 million in 2007 under this grant program.
