Get paid to train

All LETO participants earn 80 percent of a trooper’s starting annual salary ($79,469) during their first 22 weeks of classroom and practical training. After that, they receive 100 percent of base pay for the remainder of their training.

The State Patrol will provide LETO applicants with the educational requirements needed to take the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) exam, which is required for becoming a licensed peace officer. 22 weeks of POST certification training is conducted at Century College and Hennepin Technical College, followed by 14 weeks of training at the State Patrol Training Academy at Camp Ripley, alongside traditional trooper applicants. Applicants must pass the POST exam to qualify to become a trooper.
