Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training Program (ICPOET)
Description of the Program
The Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training (ICPOET) program provides grant funding to assist Minnesota law enforcement agencies with hiring. The Minnesota Legislature created the program to help agencies experiencing staffing shortfalls due to officers retiring and fewer people choosing to enter the profession.
Who was eligible to apply
Local units of government and tribal governments were eligible to apply including county sheriff’s offices, police departments and tribal public safety agencies. Colleges and universities that operate law enforcement training programs were not eligible applicants.
Next funding Opportunity
This was one-time funding and no further ICPOET RFPs will be released. 2026 grants will be operational through June 30, 2027.
See the Pathway to Policing programs for ongoing funding for recruitment and training of non-traditional law enforcement candidates.
ICPOET grantees
Fifty-two law enforcement agencies across the state received funding for the ICPOET program. The agencies have sponsored a total of 102 candidates with two- and four-year degrees who wanted to make a career transition into law enforcement.
