ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (DPS-BCA) is investigating an officer involved shooting which took place Thursday evening in Plymouth. Shortly after 8 p.m. a Plymouth Police Department officer responded to a 9-1-1 call of a disturbance at the Arby’s location at 10205 6th Avenue North in Plymouth.
According to the preliminary investigation, the officer entered the restaurant and approached the individual identified as the subject of the 9-1-1 call. After a short time a scuffle ensued during which the officer attempted to gain control of the individual. At some point, the officer fired their weapon, fatally striking the individual.
The individual has been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and formal identification. The officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle that did not require treatment. The officer has been placed on standard administrative leave. No one else in the restaurant was injured during the incident.
DPS-BCA agents and crime scene personnel are conducting the investigation with assistance from the Plymouth Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. Interviews with the officer and witnesses are not yet complete. The officer will be identified once the interviews are complete.
Once the investigation is complete, DPS-BCA will turn its findings over to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for review.
