ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating an officer involved shooting which took place Friday morning on Highway 212 near Dell Road in Eden Prairie following a pursuit which began in Carver County. The incident resulted in two deaths.
According to the preliminary investigation, Chaska Police Department officers, Carver County sheriff’s deputies and Minnesota State Patrol troopers just after 7:30 a.m. responded to reports of a vehicle driving erratically and at high speeds near Highway 212 and County Road 51 in Carver County. The same vehicle was reported to have fled the scene of a rear-end crash on Highway 212 and County Road 43. Responding officers located the red Saab heading eastbound on Highway 212 and a pursuit ensued which reached speeds of 80-90+ miles an hour.
Just before 8 a.m. the vehicle crashed along the wall on Highway 212 near Dell Road in Eden Prairie. The driver and the passenger emerged from the vehicle. The circumstances of the shooting that followed remain under investigation at this hour. One Minnesota State Patrol trooper, two officers from the Chaska Police Department and one Carver County sheriff’s deputy have been placed on standard administrative leave.
Both of the deceased individuals will be taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The medical examiner will release information on their identities when the autopsies are completed.
BCA crime scene personnel are at the scene of the incident at this hour. BCA agents are in the process of conducting interviews with the officers involved as well as witnesses. The names of the officers involved will be released by the BCA once those interviews are completed. BCA agents and crime scene personnel are conducting the investigation into the incident at the request of the agencies involved and with assistance from the Eden Prairie Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the rear-end crash at Highway 212 and County Road 43 sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia for treatment.
