ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Hibbing Police Department are investigating an incident in which two people were shot, one fatally, on Dec. 25 in Hibbing. The agencies have also identified a suspect in the case.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to 911 calls reporting a shooting in the city of Hibbing. Officers found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds in the 2400 block of Third Avenue East. One male victim was transported to Fairview Range Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Formal identification will be made by the Midwest Medical Examiner following a preliminary autopsy.
Injuries to the other individual were not life-threatening. He was treated and released at Fairview Range Medical Center.
Investigators have identified the suspect in the shooting as Jerome Diante Spann, a 29-year-old black male (DOB 5-5-89). Spann fled in a vehicle with an unknown black male and may have traveled to St. Paul where Spann has relatives. Investigators consider Spann armed and dangerous; he should not be approached.
