The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County has identified a man who was killed earlier this week in rural Pope County. Anthony Ray Tullis, 25, of 28809 208th Ave. in Gilchrist Township in rural Pope County, died on Wednesday, August 13 as a result of a gunshot wound. Toxicology test results will not be available for several weeks. The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) are investigating the circumstances surrounding Tullis’ death.
Around 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, Pope County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call of a shooting at the home. They found Ivy Winter Reutzel-Morrell, same address, outside of the home and Tullis deceased inside of the home. Reutzel-Morrell told investigators that she shot Tullis.
According to the preliminary investigation, Tullis forced Reutzel-Morrell into a bedroom in the home and repeatedly assaulted her over five hours, during which time he allegedly made several threats to her life. Reutzel-Morrell told investigators that at one point she gained control of his rifle and shot Tullis.
Reutzel-Morrell is not in custody. When the investigation is complete, the BCA and Pope County Sheriff’s Office will present their findings to the Pope County Attorney’s Office for review.
