Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Xcel Energy, To Conduct Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Drill

ST. PAUL — An emergency preparedness drill for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant will take place Tuesday, June 24. Residents in areas near the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant should not be alarmed by emergency responders carrying out their duties during the drill.

Officials with the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, Xcel Energy, the Minnesota counties of Dakota and Goodhue and the Wisconsin county of Pierce will participate in the drill which will include the movement of a variety of law enforcement vehicles.

This drill tests the capabilities of all responsible agencies to take action and protect the health and safety of area residents in the unlikely event of an incident at a nuclear generating plant. Participants must demonstrate versatility and accuracy in selecting the proper response to protect area residents.
