ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified the officer who discharged his firearm during an officer involved shooting incident on July 4 in Moorhead. No one was struck by gunfire or otherwise injured during the incident.
Officer Andrew Werk has been in law enforcement for five years. Officer Werk remains on standard administrative leave.
The man arrested during the incident has also been identified. Isiah Richard Hopkins, 23, of Moorhead, was taken into custody without incident. He remains in the Clay County Jail on an unrelated warrant.
Portions of the incident were captured on body camera and dash camera video.
The BCA investigation of the officer’s use of force is ongoing. Once its investigation is complete, the BCA will present its findings without recommendation to the Clay County Attorney’s Office for review.
