Crowd manager and fire watches

Although these sound like similar functions, there are differences between crowd managers, fire watches, and standby firefighters. This information sheet is intended to identify the differences.

Crowd managers

  • Who they are: Employees, vendors, or volunteers
  • What they do: Manage crowds, assist in evacuation

Fire watches

  • Who are they: Qualified/trained personnel
  • What they do: Watch for fire hazards, notify occupants, provide safety when fire protection systems are temporarily out of service

Standby firefighters

  • Who they are: Trained and equipped firefighters
  • What they do: Firefighting and emergency medical services
