Home Safety Visit Resources

Don't recreate the wheel

Many departments across the country have already created great guides and templates to make creating your own home safety visit program easier than ever. Check out these great easy-to-use resources below.

Washington State home safety plan

The office of the Washington State Fire Marshal has developed a guide to assist as you develop your home safety visit plan. The guide includes information on starting a program, identifying high risk areas, gaining trust, organizing your program and much more. You can find more information on their website.

Vision 20/20

Vision 20/20 has resources and links to help departments further develop a home safety visit program. The website includes video to share how the program worked for other departments.

Friendship Fire Company

Friendship Fire Company in Alexandria, Virginia, has developed a series of videos that can be shared during the home safety visit on a smartphone or tablet. The videos are in seven languages and on four different fire safety topics.

The app can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store by searching for "Friendship Fire Company."

Home Safety Challenge

The Home Safety Challenge developed by Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department (SBM) is a program to offer home safety visits in their communities along with resources to accompany the program.
