Continuing Training Information
License holders, Qualified Representatives, Minnesota Managers, Partners (who engage in licensable services) and Corporate/Company Officers (who engage in licensable services), and employees of the licensee, must obtain 6-hours annually of general continuing training.
The Board maintains a list of approved providers and can be sent to you via email, the lists are categorized by type of training; Continuing Private Detective (for investigative persons only) and Continuing Protective Agents (for protective agent/security persons only).
Some additional considerations regarding continuing training:
- When taking training, if in one year a course(s) are taken is more than 6-hours, the excess hours may be applied to the following year only. Note that the carry forward of hours does not apply to continuing armed training.
- Continuing Armed Training cannot be applied to general Continuing Training.
- In the year that an employee is hired, and required to take Preassignment Training, the employer need not also send them to Continuing Training for that year. For example, an employee hired in 2011, receiving Preassignment Training (in the required first 21-days of employment), would need Continuing Training in 2012 and 2013.
- If you are an instructor for a Board approved course, you may claim Instructor Credit to comply with training requirements. See “Teaching Credit Application” form posted on this site.
