News conference for media: Traffic safety partners seek to change 100 deadliest days reputation with enforcement, public outreach and new data tools
State traffic safety leaders will join St. Cloud-area law enforcement to announce statewide extra enforcement and test a new data analytics platform designed to save lives. The project will evaluate the platform’s ability to forecast high-risk crash areas and help law enforcement respond to and prevent serious crashes. Media attending can view a demonstration of the new software.
The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the most traveled and deadliest time on Minnesota roads. While traffic deaths so far this year are lower than in 2024, they remain higher than levels seen before the pandemic.
Traffic safety advocates are seeking additional tools and strategies to prevent the heartache and tragedy that affects so many Minnesota families year-after-year. As part of the state’s Toward Zero Deaths program, the message is clear: Even one death is too many on Minnesota roads.
In addition to the extra enforcement and outreach efforts throughout the summer, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety is coordinating a pilot project using a new data analytics tool in the St. Cloud area. Participating law enforcement agencies in the pilot project include:
- Minnesota State Patrol
- Stearns County Sheriff’s Office
- Benton County Sheriff’s Office
- St. Cloud Police Department
- Waite Park Police Department
- Sartell Police Department
- Sauk Rapids Police Department
- St. Joseph Police Department
- Albany Police Department
- Cold Spring Police Department
- Sauk Centre Police Department
- Melrose Police Department
- Belgrade/Brooten Police Department
- Foley Police Department
