How to Report Criminal Activity or Tips about George Floyd’s Murder

Minnesotans have been a valuable source of information as the state responds to criminal activity across the Twin Cities. We encourage you to continue to be vigilant and to provide information. Where you call depends on what information you are providing. Following the guidelines below will best ensure your information gets to the right people as quickly as possible. It may take multiple tries to get through but please continue to call.

Minneapolis police ask that you use the following methods to report information about a crime or criminal activity:

  • Call the MPD Tip Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
  • Anonymous Text: Text MPD and your tip to 847411 (tip411).

The tip lines are not meant to replace 311 or to report chronic neighborhood crime or livability concerns. Call 911 for a problem requiring immediate attention.

For other communities, call 911 if you need assistance.

  • Active criminal activity
  • Emergency response requests

Call the FBI at 1-800-CALLFBI (800-225-5324) or the BCA at 651-793-7000 if you have a tip for federal or state investigators about George Floyd’s murder or the activities listed below. Photo/video files can also be submitted at FBI.gov/MinneapolisTips.

  • Amassing of fireworks, liquor bottles or other incendiary device tools
  • Planning or planned attacks or criminal activities
  • Plans occurring on social media to target a specific area or building
