Jon Anglin appointed as new director of Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement
March 18, 2026
ST. PAUL — Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Commissioner Bob Jacobson has appointed Jon Anglin as the new director of DPS’ Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement (AGE) division. Anglin has been serving as interim director since October 2025.
“I had confidence in Jon assuming the interim role last October and that confidence continues as AGE moves forward under his leadership,” Jacobson said.
Jacobson added that Anglin's understanding of the ever evolving regulatory and enforcement challenges facing Minnesota is invaluable. His knowledge of the topics generating attention among industries, legislators and courts nationwide and in Minnesota is extensive.
“From sports betting, prediction markets and online sweepstakes to products like kratom, there is so much that requires strong knowledge, insight and guidance. That’s Jon.” Jacobson said.
Anglin has served with AGE since 2005, most recently as special agent in charge. In that role, he provided statewide leadership in the enforcement of alcohol and gambling laws, supervised investigative operations, managed the division’s budget, and oversaw policy development and implementation.
“A lot of Minnesotans may not realize it, but AGE’s services touch their lives and their communities across the state,” said Anglin. “Whether you’re sipping a cocktail at the local bar or playing bingo at a community festival, we help ensure you enjoy your favorite drink and gaming activity legally and safely. It’s an honor and a privilege to lead a division that protects consumers, provides resources to Minnesota’s alcohol and gaming businesses, and safeguards the integrity of those industries against illegal activities.”
During his time with AGE, Anglin has led the development of Minnesota’s online licensing and brand registration systems. He has also played a key role in reviewing legislation, advising on Tribal gaming compacts, and ensuring compliance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
AGE is a law enforcement agency made up of sworn special agents and non-sworn liquor investigators. It oversees the regulation of alcoholic beverages and gambling throughout Minnesota. Among its responsibilities, AGE investigates crimes associated with both legal and unlawful forms of gambling, ensures gaming compliance with state Tribal compacts, conducts alcohol pre-licensing background checks, educates alcohol license applicants and inspects licensed liquor establishments.
