BCA releases identity of man who died after medical emergency in Renville County Jail

ST. PAUL — The adult male who had a medical emergency at the Renville County Jail on Jan. 1 and later died has been identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office as Percy Lee Strother, 53, of Roseville. 

According to the preliminary investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Lee was found unconscious and unresponsive in his cell just before 7:30 a.m. Jan. 1 by correctional officers. Staff immediately removed Lee from the cell and provided medical aid. Emergency medical personnel transported Lee to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. 

The BCA’s preliminary investigation did not find any obvious signs of trauma on Lee and his cause of death is pending.

The BCA agreed to investigate the death at the request of the Renville County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation is ongoing and no further details are available.
