CORRECTION: BCA issues updated 2025 Uniform Crime Report

Sept. 10, 2026

The BCA has published an amended 2025 Uniform Crime Report to update three pieces of incorrect data in the original report. The changes to the report are as follows:

  • Brooklyn Park Police Department had three homicides in 2025. After the BCA was alerted to a possible missing incident, we contacted the agency and have now received reports for two homicides that were not reflected in the Uniform Crime Report. This update also changes the statewide total murders to 132.
  • In examining this same series of incidents, we learned that Champlin Police Department had not submitted three aggravated assaults. We reached out to that agency, and those reports have now been submitted to the BCA. The update changes the statewide aggravated assault total to 8,765.
  • Carjacking data initially attributed to Inver Grove Heights Police Department should be attributed to Minneapolis Police Department. The Minneapolis Police Department reported 215 carjackings in 2025. Inver Grove Heights Police Department had 0 carjackings in 2025.

None of these changes affect the statewide violent crime rate.

The updated 2025 Uniform Crime Report can be accessed on the BCA website.

In addition to data measuring criminal activity statewide, the report contains other information required in Minnesota statutes, including the number of law enforcement officers killed or assaulted, firearm discharges by police officers and police pursuits.

Use-of-force incidents

Minnesota agencies reported 21 use-of-force incidents in 2025, 11 fewer than in 2024.

  • 6 people died.
  • 16 incidents resulted in serious injury requiring medical attention.
  • 4 incidents did not result in an injury.

Agencies reported the following race information about people on whom force was used:

  • White (12)
  • Black (8)
  • American Indian or Alaskan Native (4)
  • Asian (2)

Stolen vehicle mobile tracking device warrants

The Minnesota Legislature added a new reporting requirement beginning in the 2024 Uniform Crime Report for agencies to report search warrants obtained to maintain a mobile tracking device on a stolen or fleeing vehicle for more than 12 hours. This requirement includes a reporting date range that does not align with all other reporting requirements contained in the Uniform Crime Report. For Aug. 1, 2024, through Aug. 1, 2025, there were three warrants reported.

Minnesota’s violent crime rate dropped to 225 per 100,000 population in 2025. This is the lowest violent crime rate since 2019. Reducing the violent crime rate is one of the measurable goals of Governor Walz’ One Minnesota Plan.
