Services revving up at new DVS exam stations in Marshall and Buffalo
January 8, 2024
We have some good news for wannabe drivers in Lyon and Wright counties: It will soon be easier to get an appointment to take your driver's exam.
Our Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) division opened two new exam stations in Buffalo and Marshall late last year, both of which now offer driver's licensing exams five days a week. The relocation and expansion of the two facilities is part of a larger DVS effort to meet the large demand for licensing exams across Minnesota. DVS offers knowledge and road tests at 93 exam stations across the state to ensure all Minnesota residents have access to the licenses they need.
The DVS exam station in Buffalo moved to 1006 Commercial Drive in December. It's been rewarding to see the changes that came with the relocation, according to DVS Regional Supervisor Mark Larson. Not only will the new facility offer more exam appointments, but it will also begin to offer motorcycle testing for the first time later this year.
“It's exciting observing the enthusiasm between customers and Buffalo staff. This new location was needed for several years, and people are just so pleased to have the range of services expanding," Larson said. “Smiles are bound to increase even more as we hire more local staff and make it even easier to be served."
The Marshall exam station relocated to 750 W. College Drive on Dec. 4 and will offer additional vehicle inspection services to better serve the needs of Lyon County residents.
“The station is a hybrid for DVS. It will serve both customers with driver's license needs and people or organizations that need vehicle inspections," DVS Regional Supervisor Michael Ely said. “I'm happy to say that the vehicle inspection area recently installed a vehicle lift and this location is, as of today, fully functional."
In addition to providing licensing services, the Marshall facility staff inspect vehicles that have been salvaged or rebuilt after a wreck. Thanks to the additional space, the move will make it possible for our customers to schedule vehicle inspections five days a week, instead of only once a month. DVS plans to hire two full-time staff members to cover the additional services.
Once DVS completes the hiring process at the two expanded locations and gets the offices fully staffed, Minnesotans will have more options for an appointment, making it easier for them to get their exams done.
To schedule an appointment, visit drive.mn.gov, then select “Schedule or Reschedule an Exam" and follow the prompts. If you discover you can't keep your appointment, go back to the website and cancel it as soon as possible so that someone else can have your appointment slot.
