Office for Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls unveils official logo

Feb. 19, 2026

ST. PAUL – The Office for Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls (MMBWG) has unveiled its official logo.

The logo reflects the mission, values and emotional weight of the office’s work across Minnesota.

New logo

“Black women and girls have too often been overlooked or lost. We are committed to helping families, advocates and communities as they continue to demand justice and lasting change across Minnesota,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson. “This new logo is more than a design. It is a reflection of why the Office for Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls exists.”

At the heart of the logo is a periwinkle flower. The flower itself is often seen as a symbol representing everlasting love, remembrance and resilience.

The flower’s petals are intentionally shaped to resemble the profile of a woman’s hair. This imagery is inclusive of foundational Black Americans, including those who are multiracial, as well as African immigrants, representing Black women and girls across African heritage. The logo blends nature and humanity, honoring the lives of Black women and girls who have been lost, harmed or remain missing.

A silhouette of a woman’s face is woven into the petals, serving as a reminder that the office’s work is about real people, real families and real lives.

The color palette deepens the logo’s meaning. Purple — a color associated with the fight against domestic violence — signals awareness and advocacy. The periwinkle color – a light lavender shade – embodies a collective commitment to recognizing those impacted and pursuing justice with urgency and care

“Our new logo carries both the weight of our purpose and the hope of our communities,” said MMBWG Office Director Kaleena Burkes. “It honors the lives of Black women and girls who should still be with us, and it reflects the strength of those who continue to fight for answers. This identity is a reminder that our work is urgent and that every life deserves to be protected, valued and remembered.”

MMBWG worked with Blackbird Revolt, a local Black woman-owned design firm, to develop the logo. “Partnering with Blackbird Revolt was intentional because we knew the care and love they would contribute to the project. They brought our vision to life with thoughtfulness, creativity and excellence,” added Burkes.

The office encourages community members, partners and advocates to remain engaged, support the mission and join in the ongoing work to protect Black women and girls across the state. Learn more about MMBWG.
