‘I love it:’ Users praise new DPS website
November 21, 2024
The reviews are in: Our new Department of Public Safety (DPS) website is easy to use and provides helpful public safety resources to the people of Minnesota.
Users shared their thoughts on the product after the Nov. 14 launch. More than 150 DPS employees spent over a year putting together
the new site with one goal: Provide better service to everyone who lives, drives or works in Minnesota.
“The website is amazing. I love the links to various resources and who to contact in various situations,” said Anne LaFrinier-Ritchie, a member of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) Advisory Council. LaFrinier-Ritchie works closely with our MMIR office and uses our website frequently.
The rebuilt site adds new information to make it easier to connect the people of Minnesota with the services they need when they need it. We now offer more information on our Missing and Murdered Black Women and Girls Office, Tribal relations and how to connect with our Community Affairs team. You can also access a robust online newsroom with the latest information about what we are doing in communities across the state.
Another regular user of our site, RaeAnn Flasch, shared her thoughts as well, praising the site’s new organizational tools. “Just browsing through the new layout, I love it. It's so much easier to navigate."
This is the first major update to the DPS public website since its launch in 2011. The previous site was not mobile friendly, the navigation was not user friendly and the general design was outdated. This new site corrects those issues and provides a firm foundation to create new features and enhancements to keep the website and its content relevant, engaging and responsive to your needs.
As part of the project, we also improved accessibility, making sure people from all backgrounds and communities are able to find and understand public safety information. By putting that information at their fingertips, we empower Minnesotans to take proactive steps to protect themselves and their communities.
Don’t worry. Despite all the changes, you can still do the basic tasks you’ve come to rely on, such as:
- Renew your driver's license and buy tabs
- Request information on background checks
- Get our latest news and updates
- View crime stats
- Get a crash report
- Sign up for our Safety First newsletter
Not only are the most popular DPS tasks and services front and center, but the search function also makes it easy for users to get the right information to make the right safety decisions for themselves and their loved ones.
