Minnesota is hosting the Governors Highway Safety Association national annual meeting

April 10, 2026

Traffic safety leaders and advocates from across the country are coming to Minnesota to learn, network and bring back ideas to their communities that will save lives. The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) is holding its national annual meeting in Minneapolis from Aug.29 through Sept. 2. The theme is “From Data to Action: harnessing the Technology Revolution.”

As traffic deaths fall, technology is being used in new and creative ways, and communities across the country are prioritizing traffic safety like never before. Participants can grow this momentum into a permanent movement for safer streets by joining the conference and taking knowledge from experts back to their communities.

The annual meeting will take the place of Minnesota’s annual Towards Zero Death conference this year. Minnesota law enforcement partners and traffic safety advocates statewide are encouraged to attend.

OTS Director Michael Hanson was elected Chair of GHSA in 2024 and reelected in 2025. He previously served as Vice Chair in 2023–2024 and as Treasurer in 2020–2022.
