About
The State Patrol Special Response Team (SRT) is a specialized unit trained to respond to a variety of situations upon request. Initially formed in 1992 to handle Minnesota State Capitol complex crowd control, SRT has evolved as a full functioning tactical team.
Activities include:
- Tactical assistance to other Minnesota law enforcement agencies with situations such as arrest warrants, barricaded subjects, hostage rescue and search warrants
- Search and rescue operations
- Dignitary protection.
SRT team consists of one lieutenant, 17 troopers and three tactical medics. SRT members are trained in rescue and tactical rappelling from State Patrol helicopters. The team is also trained in tactical insertion by helicopter. The team also has four trained scout / snipers.
