New State Patrol dispatchers complete an initial three-week academy where they learn about the policies, procedures and operations of the numerous programs and technologies that they will utilize.

After the initial academy training, dispatchers complete a field training program. New dispatchers are paired with experienced State Patrol trainers while they begin their dispatching career. Field training consists of three phases:

  • Phase One: Answer 911 calls and utilize computer aided dispatch (CAD) to create events.
  • Phase Two: Utilize the radio to dispatch calls to troopers, conservation officers and other agencies they serve.
  • Phase Three: Combine those skills.

New dispatchers are evaluated and tested throughout the process to ensure they are capable and proficient.

After their initial training, State Patrol dispatchers complete ongoing training in relevant fields such as responding to human trafficking and emergency first aid.
