ST. PAUL — Minnesota State Patrol Troopers were involved in a pursuit last night in the Duluth area that ended with shots fired at the suspect vehicle. No one was injured and the suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Duluth Police attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding around midnight near the intersection of 71st West and Grand Avenue. The vehicle fled.
A State Patrol Trooper located the vehicle and began a pursuit on Hwy. 23 near Morgan Park. Troopers unsuccessfully attempted to stop the vehicle using a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver.
The pursuit continued and ended near a residential garage on Becks Road. Based on the preliminary investigation, the suspect struck at least two squads while attempting to flee the area. At that time, shots were fired at the vehicle by a Trooper. The suspect was not hit; however, a Taser was deployed to take him into custody.
The suspect, Jared Steven Haske, was arrested and booked into the St. Louis County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, assault, and fleeing a police officer.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the officer involved shooting related to this incident. The Trooper is on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure in these cases.
