The Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Center focuses on four main safety campaigns to urge Minnesota riders and motorists to safely share the road and prevent motorcycle crashes and fatalities.
- Motorcycle Training: Riders should take a training course when they first start riding and a course every couple riding seasons to make sure they are the best rider they can be. There are training courses available for beginning to expert riders April through September every year statewide.
- Motorcycle Protective Gear: Riders should wear full protective gear every time they ride. That includes a DOT-approved helmet, riding jacket, pants, gloves and boots. Gear should be reflective for high-visibility out on the road.
- Motorcycle Awareness: Drivers should always look twice for motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller, making speed and distance difficult to judge. Motorists should always safely share the road with motorcyclists and not follow too closely.
- Motorcycle Impaired: Riders shouldn't drink and ride. Each year about one third of riders killed had been drinking.
