DPS is rebuilding its website to better serve all Minnesotans

Think back to 12 years ago. Social media was just becoming a part of our daily lives. There were more ads on TV for computers than phones. We were all more likely to use a phone to call for information than check a website.

A lot has changed in the dozen years since the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) first launched our current website. But one thing hasn't: Our site.

DPS is rebuilding its public website, updating it to make sure it serves you better. Not only are we addressing accessibility issues, making it mobile friendly, but we're also redesigning the navigation to streamline information so you can quickly and easily find what you need.

"Your insights are the key to our success. Your voice matters to us as we work together to shape the future of our website," DPS Commissioner Bob Jacobson said.

From the 911 call to the investigation and victim services, DPS strives to provide timely, accurate and compassionate service to all Minnesotans, as well as those who visit or do business here. A large part of that is making sure our services are accessible to everyone. We know technology has changed since our website first launched: More people now access our website on smartphones than desktop computers. That's why the website rebuild will modernize the visual design of our site to be mobile friendly.

While we are planning our new site, we are also making sure we continue to promote accountability and build trust with the people we serve through resources like the Minnesota State Patrol Data Dashboard. We will also make sure users can find our other online services, such as those offered by our Driver and Vehicle Services division.

Education is also a huge part of what we do here at DPS to build a safer Minnesota. Our public education programs influence personal behavior so those who live, work and play here can be a part of the solution and help reduce fatalities, no matter how they happen. Our website can be a huge resource for people across the state, which is why the rebuild will improve how the content is organized, making sure you can find the information you need.

We are dedicated to creating a website that's not just informative but also easy to use. While the work has started on our end, we want to make sure the new site serves you, the people of Minnesota.

We will keep you updated on future opportunities to share your thoughts and priorities.
