July 2020 fire training update

By Jake Lindquist
Training Coordinator

Even as we start to see more things open up throughout the state, we are still in challenging times when it comes to gathering for classroom training. We continue to offer courses online for fire departments if they are interested. We continue to plan for the future of our classes and conferences and hope we will see everyone in the near future.

Hazmat classes are available online by request. The Hazmat Team can coordinate with you to continue these courses online via a live presentation. Each hazmat course is 2.5 hours long and can be attended through our provided link. These courses are not recorded and are only available by request from a fire department training representative. If you’re interested, please contact me to schedule.

Late summer courses are still on track for delivery following the latest social distancing guidelines. Each of these courses has been rescheduled from earlier this spring. Participants that registered on the SFMD training page will receive updates on any changes to these courses.

2021 NFA Courses
National Fire Academy courses set for the winter of 2021 are still on track. This year we are offering a course titled Fire Investigation for First Responders. This is a new NFA course that focuses on fire scene awareness, evidence identification, preservation, and the basics of a fire investigation. This is a good course for firefighters; company officers; and anyone interested in fire suppression, investigation, science, and law. This course is taught by a national expert sent to us from the fire academy, and is a great opportunity to get an official National Fire Academy course certificate without having to travel there.
