Specialty position training dashboard
Many troopers take on responsibilities in addition to their regular patrol duties. They receive training for those specialized positions within the State Patrol.
These additional roles and their required training times are:
- Crash reconstruction specialists: 140 hours of initial training with at least 40 hours of additional yearly training
- Commercial vehicle enforcement troopers: 80-hour initial course with ongoing yearly trainings
- Drug recognition evaluators: Initial 72-hour course and eight hours of additional yearly training
- Law enforcement phlebotomists: 32 hours of initial coursework with 50 supervised blood draws
- K-9 handlers: 200-240 hours of initial training, 32 hours of yearly internal training and 16 hours of K-9 training each month
- Mobile Response Team members: 24-hour initial training course, followed by a five-day course and ongoing yearly trainings
- Special Response Team members: 40-hour initial training course and at least one team training day monthly
- Peer Support Team members: 40-hour course, yearly eight-hour internal training and two biannual regional refresher trainings
- Tactical flight officers: 16 hours of training and ongoing in-flight training
