Minnesota law requires that individuals follow certain procedures to establish eligibility to obtain, transfer or carry a handgun. Permits are issued by all county sheriffs in Minnesota.
Permit Tracking System
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension maintains a Permit Tracking System which provides information only to law enforcement and prosecutors about individuals who have been granted or denied a permit to carry a firearm. Eligible sheriff's office personnel and prosecutors may request access to the Permit Tracking System by submitting a MyBCA Access Request form available on CJIS LaunchPad under MNJIS Resources.
