Minnesota law requires that individuals follow certain procedures to establish eligibility to obtain, transfer or carry a handgun. Permits are issued by all county sheriffs in Minnesota.
Permit Tracking System
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension maintains a Permit Tracking System which provides information only to law enforcement officers and prosecutors about individuals who have been granted or denied a permit to carry a handgun. Eligible criminal justice agency personnel may request access to the Permit Tracking System via the Catalog of Services.
