Narcotics investigations
Reducing the number of illicit drug-related deaths and drug-related criminal activity requires a multi-faceted approach focused on both enforcement and prevention. And part of the solution is you.
- If you or a loved one is struggling with illicit drug use, get information on drug treatment resources.
- Take advantage of prescription drug drop-off programs for those you no longer need. Find a drop-off site near you.
BCA enforcement efforts
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) utilizes many tools and partnerships as we work to address illicit drug crimes in Minnesota. Our narcotics agents work in communities across Minnesota, conducting undercover operations designed to prevent drugs from entering our communities, and apprehending those responsible.
Partnerships
BCA narcotics agents also partner with local, state and federal agencies and with several task forces and other organizations.
- The BCA established the Minnesota Anti-Heroin Task Force in 2018 to help local agencies address the heroin crisis in Indian Country communities – working disrupt the flow of heroin into Minnesota and investigating overdose deaths.
- BCA narcotics agents serve on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) task force in the Minneapolis and Fargo/Moorhead areas investigating federal-level narcotics traffickers.
- We also participate in the North Central High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, working to disrupt drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.
Data-driven efforts
We utilize the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) to identify and respond to spikes in overdoses and notify the public when the data alerts us to a spike in overdoses in a particular community.
We also created the Minnesota Drug Crimes and Overdose Dashboard, which contains data, tools for trend analysis and other information to help inform efforts to prevent and respond to drug overdoses, drug-related deaths and drug-related crimes in Minnesota.
