Submit a data request

You have the right to see data the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has under a state law called the “Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.” The BCA has a policy that explains how to request data and an inventory explaining the types of data the BCA has. The policy and inventory may be found in the Data Access Policy and Inventory.

Submitting a data request

To make a request, use our new GovQA data request system. This system allows you to submit requests electronically. Once you set up your account and enter your request, you’ll be able to monitor our progress on your request and receive the data responsive to your request directly to your account. Learn more about using GovQA.

Some data requests require us to verify your identity before providing the requested data. The BCA verifies identity through the use of a notary.  The GovQA system will direct you to upload proof of identity where required.  Use the Proof of Identity Form to prove identity.
