Minnesota experienced an alarming increase in aggravated assaults and murders last year. And most of them were committed with a firearm.

- There were 513 firearm-related deaths in Minnesota in 2020. The death rate is 8.9 per 100,000 people.
- Of these deaths, 354 (69 percent) were suicides, and 138 (27 percent) were homicides.
- The majority of decedents (89 percent) were male. The death rate was 15.9 per 100,000 for males and 2.0 per 100,000 for females.
- 28 Minnesotans under the age of 18 lost their lives to firearms, representing a 75 percent increase from 2010.
