About Internal Affairs and Affirmative Action
An independent DPS office that processes and investigates complaints against DPS employees and oversees DPS’ affirmative action, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation efforts.
What we do
Our Internal Affairs and Affirmative Action (IA/AA) office helps ensure that Department of Public Safety (DPS) employees are accountable for their work and actions. We are an independent DPS core service that processes and investigates complaints against DPS employees, and we field and share compliments about our employees, too. The IA/AA director reports directly to the Commissioner's Office to ensure we have the freedom to investigate serious misconduct without undue influence. We also employ at least three part-time investigators who have prior investigative experience, generally as former law enforcement officers or attorneys.
Our core service makes sure that employees, job applicants, and members of the public with disabilities receive accommodations consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act. We are also responsible for developing and monitoring progress toward the goals in the department's biennial affirmative action and equal opportunity plans.
