Affirmative action and equal opportunity: creating fairness in jobs

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is committed to Minnesota's statewide affirmative action efforts and equal opportunity policies. Affirmative action programs exist to address past imbalances in job opportunities. Many qualified people have historically faced disadvantages in getting jobs because of their race, gender or disability.

Affirmative action promotes fairness by ensuring that each person with the necessary skills has a chance to be considered for a job. This helps create a diverse workforce that reflects the rich diversity of the surrounding community.

DPS seeks to provide equal employment opportunities to all and to foster work environments that are welcoming and free of discriminatory harassment. These efforts allow us to provide the best possible service to the people of Minnesota.

Every two years, DPS assesses its progress and sets new affirmative action and equal opportunity goals.
