Commercial vehicles: School bus inspections
The Minnesota State Patrol’s Office of Pupil Transportation is responsible for inspecting school buses every year. School buses may also be inspected on the roadside or randomly.
School bus inspections
Minnesota's school bus inspection program is guided by Minnesota Statute 169.451. There are five types of authorized school buses used to transport children (Type A, Type B, Type, C, Type D, and Type III). This statute incorporates national standards set by the National Congress on Student Transportation.
School buses that pass an inspection will have the inspection certificate attached to the lower left corner of the windshield.
If a school bus does not pass inspection, it will receive a rejection sticker. The sticker can only be removed by a member of the State Patrol who has determined that all defects have been corrected. A bus with a rejection sticker may be used to transport students for up to 30 days if the defects have been corrected, and the vehicle examination report is signed and placed in the first aid kit on the bus.
School bus inspection results
School bus inspection results are listed by year, and by school district or contractor.
We update these results monthly. If you can’t find the results for a specific school district or contractor for the current year, the annual inspections have not yet been completed.
