Commercial vehicles: Wheelchair vehicle inspections

Vehicle requirements

Vehicles used to transport people who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids must meet specific requirements. Only vehicles that have been inspected by the State Patrol and that display a current inspection certificate or sticker can transport people in wheelchairs.

These include vehicles used for public transit, residential care facilities or taxi services. They must be properly equipped with ramps or lifts, as well as proper wheelchair tiedown and passenger restraint systems. They must meet requirements of Minn. Stat. 299A, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 403 and 404, American with Disabilities Act (38.23), and applicable manufacture recommendations.
