Driver and passenger safety

Sharing the road is a calculated risk. When we all do our part to follow the rules, we all have a better chance of staying safe. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is here to help you minimize the inherent risks we all face out on the roads every day.

Assume that not everyone shares your dedication to safety. The more you know, the better equipped you'll be to react quickly in a situation. There are no guarantees. But if we all do our part to Drive Smart, we will all be better off.

NEW: Motorcycle lane splitting and filtering begins July 1

Motorcycle lane splitting and lane filtering will be legal in Minnesota as of July 1. Motorists and motorcyclists need to be aware of this new law and how it will affect them to ensure it is enacted safely and respectfully on Minnesota roadways.
