Motorcycle road guard

What is the motorcycle road guard law?

Overview

The Motorcycle Road Guard law, enacted in 2012, authorizes motorcycle road guard certificate holders to stop and control traffic for motorcycle group riders. Drivers of vehicles stopped by a flagger may only proceed if instructed by a flagger or police officer. Minnesota State Statute 169.06, subdivision 4(f)

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) amended Minnesota Rules by adding a new chapter to regulate and administer the motorcycle road guard certification and qualification requirements.

The rules are needed to establish safety and equipment requirements, curriculum content and the fee for the person to obtain a Motorcycle Road Guard Certificate.
