Fire escape planning tips

Here are some tips and information to help you and your family create a fire escape plan for your home.

  • Designate a safe meeting place outside your home everyone can get to after a fire. Make sure everyone in your family understands where to go.
  • Use graph paper to draw a floor plan of your home and show two ways out of each room. 
  • Make sure each family member is aware of two ways out of each room.   
  • Practice your family escape plan twice each year. 
  • Practice at different times of the day to make sure people know what to do during nightime hours.
  • Walk through your home periodically and inspect all exits and escape routes.
